Solo Exhibition GRØNBECHS GÅRD SPRING 2026
COMING HOME will be presented as a solo exhibition at Grønbechs Gård in Hasle, Bornholm, opening on March 28, 2026. Spanning two floors (approx. 90 m²), the exhibition marks Anne Nowak’s artistic return to her birthplace after 32 years.
Rooted in Bornholm’s nature, light, and materials, the exhibition weaves together personal memory and local history. Drawing on her upbringing in Nexø during the 1980s fishing crisis, Nowak reflects on loss, resilience, and renewal.
Visitors are guided through an immersive blue universe featuring 40–50 cyanotypes of Bornholm seaweed and algae, luminous sculptures made from recycled plastic, and installations combining granite, mirrors, and botanical cyanotypes. A film documents her creative process and explorations.
The upper gallery, Kikkenborg, overlooking the Baltic Sea, will be transformed into a symbolic lighthouse — a tribute to the fishermen who are no longer here. Suspended metal pieces and fragments of mirrors create a poetic play of light, reflection, and healing.
COMING HOME offers a sensory and emotional journey where personal narrative merges with cultural heritage, exploring universal themes of memory, loss, and reconciliation.
Art Installation for Ruten 14-Eilers Minde
by Anne Nowak
The site-specific installation at Ruten 14 is designed to create a poetic connection between nature and the building’s interior, drawing inspiration from the forest, the sea, the sky, and the night sky.
Developed in collaboration with Matters Arkitekter, the work seeks to bring the calm and magic of nature into the daily life of the care home. Organic, bubble-like glass forms rise upward like soap bubbles floating toward the sky. Each element is made of glass infused with star-like specks — fragments of light that shimmer and shift with the surroundings.
The colour palette transitions harmoniously from deep green at the base of the staircase to a celestial blue at the top, echoing the architecture’s tones. The installation creates a contemplative oasis — a moment of peace and reflection for residents and visitors alike.
By mirroring the changing moods of nature, the artwork transforms the stairwell into a gentle portal to another universe, fostering a sense of serenity, inspiration, and well-being within the building.
