Merging Waters:
A new collaboration between InWear and Danish artist Anne Nowak
Danish artist Anne Nowak has in collaboration with InWear’s design manager Jette Romvig created a mini capsule collection Merging Waters in colourful contrast to InWear’s monochromatic and minimalistic universe. The pastel collection is available in stores on 25 May just in time for summer.
Originally trained as a textile designer, Anne Nowak is an artist exploring the dichotomy of impermanence/eternity, life/death, dark/light and the sun/the moon.
Jette Romvig has a degree in fashion design from Designskolen Kolding and began her career at InWear to proceed to positions as creative manager at Magasin and senior designer at By Malene Birger to return to InWear as design manager.
The collaboration breaks with InWear’s otherwise classic and monochromatic universe with a collection of shirts in subtle hues of light blue and pink. Designed in Tencel – a material that despite being made from tree fibres has a soft silky
feel – to keep InWear’s commitment to a more sustainable future. The collection bridges Anne’s sensuous approach to colour, Jette’s strong and timeless take on design and the minimalistic strength of InWear.
The artist’s inspiration for the collection derived from strong, independent women as Karen Blixen, the fictional Annie Hall and also InWear’s design manager. “How can I get Jette, who is always meticulously dressed in black and white, to wear colour?” was the starting point for Anne Nowak’s process. She has applied a technique that presented itself while creating an artwork in the middle of a forest. A cloudburst suddenly hit and she discovered how the rain blended with the paint on the canvas, almost like watercolour but in a more autonomous and generous way. Hence, the origin of
the collection’s title, Merging Waters. Just like the contrast and interaction when two fluids merge like paint and water
or fresh meltwater meets saltwater. With this collection, there were seven different hues of pink and light blue creating a synergy in the print.
It was the moon that connected InWear to the more expressive Anne Nowak. InWear’s design manager Jette Romvig was captivated by the artist’s more monochromatic moon art pieces. Jette has always had a special bond with the moon from her years living abroad. When she longed most for home, Jette and her mother would look at the moon together, knowing it was the same made them feel closer. The lunar connection between Anne Nowak and Jette Romvig was the starting point for the collaboration.
